I remember the days (of yore?) when I was obsessed with Unicorns. So when my son’s good friend announced he was going to have a Rainbow Unicorn birthday party, I jumped at the chance to decorate it!
Now, I know what you may be thinking, a Rainbow Unicorn birthday party for a 9 year old boy? And not just Rainbow Unicorn, but (in his words) an “Awesome, Shiny, Glitter, Rainbow Unicorn Party”. My policy is “You want a specific party theme? You got it!” With only about 2 weeks notice, I dove in to coming up with some truly sparkly rainbow-y graphics for his party decorations. Here he is, enjoying the spotlight – wearing a pink quilted jacket and a pink glitter purse that, by the way, was filled with nerf gun bullets. The kid is a ham.
.
Party snacks are always a good idea, freshly popped corn in cute personalized boxes, and fruit salad in cute little paper nut cups from the Target dollar bin. I added 2″ round cupcake toppers to the fruit, and giggled a little bit when the kids used them as cutlery.
.
Desserts! I knew the parents of the birthday boy were ordering a bakery cake, but he also asked me specifically for some sweet treats. How can you say no? And (most) of the items were SO easy! I made Fruity Pebbles marshmallow treats in the perfect shade of rainbow, brownie bites (from a box mix) topped with a little frosting and sprinkles, and carrot cake/salted caramel cake pops decorated with a matching flag.
.
You can’t forget a little party favor!
.
Also, I obviously couldn’t help myself but make a tiny Unicorn piñata. Easy tutorial coming next week!
.
Now for the activities. The kids really wanted to make wearable unicorn horns, so that’s what we did! Also, you just can’t get away without a Pin-the-horn-on-the-unicorn game! The game had no prize per se, just bragging rights. The birthday boy’s sister asked me for Unicorn photo booth props – I really need to learn how to say no. But, come on! How cute! Also, a real Unicorn piñata! Sadly, I think my little tiny one felt a little jealous.
.
What else… oh, CAKE! The bakery cake was made without any embellishments, so we added a mini-bunting cake topper and a ton of sprinkles. Happy Birthday Vinnie!
